My acrostic poem: Bog School.

Bombs pounding out of the sky they make me scared
One minute to go and the war will start.
Going to the cloakroom in the freezing cold.

Snow flakes falling down upon my woolly scarf and hat.
Children skipping and playing ball in the playground, Old fashioned games.
Heather, feathers, brambles and trees all of them growing at the bog.
On the playground, the teacher said!
Oil lamps are the only light to heat up the school.
Lamps are run by oil.

Jack’s thrilling wartime story

30 10 2007

Last night a German  bomber got lost in
Shropshire.
He dropped a bomb because he saw that he had a few more bombs left  so he dropped one but the only problem is he dropped it on the Stiperstones. The next day the children woke and got ready for school .When  they got to the playground they found bits of bomb everywhere. When the bell rang it was time to go in the children told a story about the bits of bomb. They did lots of righting and stories about the bombs . They found bits of bomb everywhere and were over excisted

The children collected bits of bomb and always saw

Hews got the most. Running around collecting bits of stone and bomb was really excisting.

Bog school gets bombed!

Reported by Thomas Grime
War correspondent
Bog school

Last night, on 9th April 1941, bombs were exploding all around the Bog school. It is suspected that the bombers thought that there were British soldiers there. It is also suspected that the Germans were told by somebody that nobody knows the name of. The bomb raid lasted for over two hours, and it is believed that over 120 bombs were dropped, half of which were incendiary bombs. Children from the school were petrified, even though it was in the night. One child said that the bombs lit up the night, and he couldn’t get any sleep.
Arthur Reid said “it was terrible. There was no rest for people near the school”. It was believed that the bombing was on the way back from Liverpool, as it was on the same night. One bomb was dropped at the entrance to the girl’s playground, but not one pane of glass was broken. Most of the incendiary bomb fires burnt themselves out, because the ground was wet from the rain earlier on that day.

Dana Lewis interviewed  Mr. Wynn. He described how The Bog school was in the 1950s

Mr Wynn described the break time as “free time” He said that the children would hide underneath The window of the staff room so that the teachers could not see them. They also used to swap cards that you got in tea boxes.

Then he told us about lessons He said that the teacher used to trough board rubbers and pens at people who weren’t listing or were talkingAnd if they did it again they would get the cane across there hands.

After that he told us about lunch. He bought Sandwiches every day as they did not have school dinners. In the summer time they would eat outside in the winter they ate in the classroom.

10th April 1941When I was sleeping I herd a siren my dad got me out side. I saw one bomb blow up near  me it was terrifying.

11th April 1941At school I saw bomb craters. An hour later I went to the well all of the craters where in my way. When I got back no one wanted water  so I drunk it all by my self then I went to the toilet when I got back in I was soaking . Today I had horse liver I ate it all then I was sick. We had a game of rouders in P.E I won.

12th April 1941At school people were colleting bomb parts I had 59 parts. I had a party because it was my Birthday.

13th April 1941In the morning there was a flud and I went “YES” as loud as I could and I didn’t go to school. All day I was making things out wooden blocks and playing with my cars. When I was bored, water dripped on my head and we got a bucket  and soon and we had keep on empting the water out.

14th April 1941School was closed I went to a bomb crater. It was still wet but I could still play me and my friends went down a slide what we made out of wood ten times. In the water at the bottom I was swimming. It’s better than when it’s not fluded. When I got home I went to bed.

My Diary: Bombing night.

Dear diary,         Last night bombs pounded out of the sky, I was terrified  . I ran into the classroom and found a tile lying right in front of me on the floor, there was a massive gap in the roof. Millie Price and Bitty Perkins came running in “You Darna not go outside because an aircraft has crash landed on the playground” Bitty said. Everybody came rushing in and Lucy McMillan had got a bright red face. “Let me go outside I’ll be careful” I told them.

(At breaktime)

Everybody went outside Bitty jumped into the crashed plane he thought it was fun, “Come on in Violet, come in and try it!,” So I went in, it smelt like it had just set on fire It was kinda weird. My feet were covered in muck and dust because of all the dust and charcoal in the plane and parts of the Bomb when it had landed.  (Back in school) The bell rang and we all went into the classroom and sat down the room was freezing. Our teacher Mrs Lire, Turned the heating on it took quite along time to warm up. “Lucy Sit down” She shouted, it was quite scary. Lucy didn’t listen and got the cane right across her left hand. I had, had the cane a few times but very rally. The guns went off like doors being shut hard up on the Stiperstones I thought it was too dangerous to stay in school any longer. ‘Pow’ one of the bullets hit the floor in the playground, “right everybody to the cloakroom” the teacher said. The cloakroom was to go in when there was a war happening.

(The noises stopped)

Suddenly, it was quiet “Yes the guns and wars have stopped” I said excitedly. So we all went back into the classroom, “it still might not be safe outside”. We did some writing about our favourite Character….. (The clock hit 3:40) We finished school.

(At home)

I told mum and dad all about what had happened and they said they heard the bombs over head. Mum got very scared that day. I went off to bed but I couldn’t get to sleep because I was scared about last night and yesterday.

Dear Diary

Today I am going to school and it is my second week.
I am putting my wellies on ready to go. Bog School is normally pleasant but people normally get the cane and that is a bad thing. I have t walk 2 miles to get to the school.
School starts at 8:30am and finishes at 4:00pm.
I am going to school now and I hope it goes well.
4:30pm:
I am back from school now and it all went really well. We done maths first thing and done about shillings and coins and I thought it was really easy. Then we had some dinner then we had playtime. We also done some practice of what we have to do if there was a ww2 in school time afterwards in the afternoon. I am now going to help my mum make some Rock cakes.
11:30pm:
I have only just woke up and I can hear bombing over ahead right next to the Bog School, I wonder what it will be like tomorrow at school?
8:00:
I am really excited about today and I am half way there and I can see bombs shattered everywhere.
Everyone is all gathered up, we are going to run to get different pieces of bombs and come back in 10 minutes and experiment which bits of a bomb it is.
We were doing the experiment all day and it was great fun and now our Topic is ‘ww2’ .
4:30:
Today was really fun and I think I am getting to really like school and I know it sounds weird but I really like school and it will be a shame to leave at 15 because I’m only 10.
5 years later:
It is my last day and I am really sad to leave but we are having a little leaving party and it is great!

Boilers hot and clanging
Oil lamps shining bright at night
Green trees waving in the breeze

Silly children getting told off
Canes being whipped across children
Hot radiators steaming up the windows
Out on the playground chattering children
Out in the cloakroom children everywhere
Looking out of the window because teachers groaning on.
